Death Row Records Sold To Highest Bidder

The majority of Death Row Records’ publishing and recorded music assets became the property of the Global Music Group on Tuesday (June 24).

Global Music Group acquired Suge Knight's former empire for $25 million during an estate auction, which took place in Los Angeles.

With the traditional 10-day waiting period waived, the Tennessee based-indie took immediate ownership of the label’s entire catalogue, including 20 unreleased records by the late Tupac Shakur.

The sale took place despite Marion “Suge” Knight’s reported efforts challenge federal bankruptcy Judge Vincent Zurzolo’s order to liquidate Death Row's assets to alleviate the debt that forced both the label and Knight into bankruptcy in 2006.

With its new acquisition, GMG, headed by president Susan Berg, is making its first foray into the world of urban music, adding the genre defining music of Snoop Dogg Dr. Dre and Tupac to it’s current roster of two country singers, a studio musician and an alternative band.

If all terms of the sale were left untouched, GMG now owns all of Death Row’s masters, videos, compositions and recording, as well as all digital recording rights, merchandising rights licenses, and publishing agreements.

Excluded from the exchange are cash and bank accounts, real estate, and personal property held by Suge Knight and Death Row Records.

In addition, the label gets to retain any outstanding accounts receivable payments and prorated publishing income that may still be due.

GMG is also released from all standing distribution deals for the music, including one with Koch Records, which had become one of Death Row’s primary distributors.

NEYO & CHRIS BROWN BEEF?

Shaq gets slapped by sheriff for rap about Bryant

PHOENIX (AP)—Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

“I want his two badges back,” Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they’re fired. I don’t condone this type of racial conduct.”

Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that “Kobe couldn’t do without me.” O’Neal skewers the Lakers’ star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.

“I was freestyling. That’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever,” O’Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O’Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn’t immediately respond.

Shaq video dissing Kobe!! Funny Shhhhh!! lol

I gotta say....This is the hottest hook for the summer. Lmao. Yo Kobe...Tell me how my A$$ Taste! Pure Genuis!!

The Game Sides W/ Young Buck, Releases New G-Unit Diss Track

The Game

A day after ousted G-Unit member Young Buck released a diss record aimed at 50 Cent titled, "The Taped Conversation," in response to the G-Unit general posting an emotional phone conversation between the two on the net, The Game has come to the aid of the Cashville emcee by releasing his own diss track calling out the Unit.

The Game's song, entitled "Taped Convo" featuring Ralphage, the prank caller, finds the west coast rapper and former G-unit member proclaiming that it's his turn to take aim at 50 Cent and the rest of G-Unit.

He starts off the record referring to 50, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks as wangsters.

"Its a 'G' in Young Buck / It's a 'G' in the Game / Banks, Yayo and 50, ain't no 'G' in they name / I'm a certified gangsta /f*ck them wangstas..."

The Game's lyrical onslaught continues as he questioned Fif's morals, addressing his relationship with his son and ex-girlfriend and the loyalty to his crew.

"You don't care about your son, if you did he would get yanked up / taping n*ggas phone calls what kind of sh*t is that... I told Buck buck in '05 I could never stay loyal / to a homo snitch n*gga that's weaker than tin foil / Oh why, oh why this n*gga wanna play games / with that Cashville n*gga and that Ceder Block ganga / Get the f*ck outta Tyson's mansion and turn the drama up / This n*gga a b*tch tried to burn his own baby momma up..."

50 Cent Ex Files Restraining Order

50 Cent and ex Shaniqua Tompkins added the next chapters in their convoluted legal battle, as both parties have filed lawsuits against each other today.

Tompkins struck first this morning receiving a temporary restraining order against 50.

The order also places restrictions on 50’s access to the former couple’s son, 11 year-old Marquise.

Until further notice, 50 is only allowed to pick up and drop off Marquise at “curbside,” as he must not be on any premises where Tompkins is present.

Finally, the rap mogul must forfeit any firearms currently in his possession.

Tompkin’s lawyer Paul Catsandonis revealed that his client plans to pursue a permanent restraining order at a subsequent court hearing next month.

50 responded this afternoon by filing an enforcement order of visitation with the NY State Family Court.

In the order, 50, real name Curtis Jackson, states that Tompkins “has refused to allow the petitioner to see his son or visit with him.”

“On June 11, 2008, the respondent (Tompkins) did permit the practitioner (Jackson) to speak with his son,” the order details. “However, upon information and belief, the respondent was hovering over Marquise, monitoring the conversation and, after a short while, she interrupted the conversation by taking the phone from Marquise and yelling at the petitioner. The petitioner was constrained to terminate the call.”

50’s lawyer Brett Kimmel released a brief statement on behalf of his client.

“Outside of courtrooms and lawyer’s offices, Mr. Jackson hasn’t seen nor spoken with Ms. Tompkins in a year and a half and he has no interest in doing so now,” Kimmel explained. “The petition is little more than a tactic and a vindictive response to the petition Mr. Jackson filed seeking an order holding Ms. Tompkins in contempt of court for refusing to permit him to see his son.”

50 also filed a separate $20 million dollar defamation lawsuit against Tompkins in response to her statements implicating the rap mogul in the fire that destroyed his Dix Hill, Long Island home in May 2008.

Today’s lawsuits continue a month of bitter legal wrangling between Jackson and Tompkins.

On June 10th, Tompkins successfully petitioned the NY State Supreme Court to freeze 50’s insurance payout from the destroyed home pending the results of an arson investigation.

Taco Bell Offers 50 A Deal; 50 is Not Amused

Music lovers may know Curtis Jackson by his rap alias 50 Cent, but the G-Unit leader may adopt another name if he accepts an offer from Taco Bell. To promote its new “Why Pay More” value menu, Taco Bell sent 50 Cent an offer letter, asking him to change his name to either 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent for one day this summer.Taco Bell Corp. President Greg Creed, who made the proposal in a letter written to 50 Cent's agent, also wrote that his company would make a $10,000 donation to a charity of the New York native's choice, if he accepts the request. As part of the deal, 50 Cent would also have to make an appearance at any Taco Bell location around the country he chooses and rap his order in the drive thru with his new name.“We encourage you to ‘Think Outside the Bun’ and hope you accept our offer,” Creed wrote to the world famous rapper’s agent at the William Morris Agency.50 Cent didn’t find any humor in Creed’s offer.“When my legal team is finished with them, Taco Bell is going to have a new corporate slogan: 'We messed with the bull and got the horns,'” 50 Cent said in a statement.A rep for the rapper issued a more detailed reply."This is a sleazy and ill-conceived publicity stunt by Taco Bell's president, Greg Creed, whose disingenuous offer was leaked to the press before it was even presented to 50 Cent's agent yesterday," the representative said.

Ralph “Ralphie” Simms, an incarcerated former Black Mafia Family member, has alleged in court that rapper Young Jeezy received kilos of cocaine from BMF.

The stunning claim was made in the cocaine-conspiracy trial of Fleming “Ill” Daniels, another alleged BMF member, according to Creative Loafing in Atlanta.

Justice Department spokesman Patrick Crosby would not comment on whether the rapper is now being investigated due to the claims made by Simms.

Young Jeezy’s lawyer Scott Leemon had “no comment” when contacted today (June 14) about Simms’ shocking testimony.

BMF was started in the late 1980s by brothers Demetrius “Meech” and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory in Detroit.

By 2005 the organization is reputed to have laundered over $270 million in drug money throughout various US cities.

Due to high profile forays into Hip-Hop music and lavish spending, the organization caught the attention of the FBI and was subsequently dismantled through strategic raids in the last 3 years.

Demetrius and Terry Flenory were both indicted on drug trafficking charges in 2005.

Bleu Davinci was the only artist on BMF’s record label BMF Entertainment.

Davinci was arrested in 2007 for cocaine distribution and recently pleaded guilty to related charges.

The accuser, Ralph Simms, was indicted on related drug charges last year in Los Angeles.

Simms informed the jury that he hoped to receive a reduced sentence in light of his testimony in the Daniels case.

At press time, Young Jeezy has not been charged or questioned by authorities about Simms’ accusation.

Wendy Williams

A lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses shock jock Wendy Williams' husband of scheming to kill his wife's radio rival.

Kevin Hunter allegedly tried to enlist the help of a male WBLS employee, the station where Wendy works, to help him find a hit man to take out Hot 97 radio personality Miss Jones, according to New York's Daily News.

Hunter "was apparently angry over some comments that Miss Jones made about his wife on the air," the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Federal Court claims.

Wendy and Hunter are currently under fire as Hunter is accused of sexually harassing a 29 year-old talent booker for "The Wendy Williams Experience" on WBLS, Nicole Spence, while Wendy allegedly egged it on.

VIDEOS FROM HOT 97 SUMMER JAM 2008

Alicia Keys Brings out Wutang

Lil Wayne expresses his love!!

D-bLock is paper Touchin!!

Summer Jam rap up

It was an evening that bridged the gap between hip-hop's past and present. From Alicia Keys and Wu-Tang Clan to Lil' Wayne and Public Enemy, Hot 97's annual Summer Jam concert, at Giant's Stadium, was a night that paid homage to the rap's seasoned veterans, while showcasing the talent of hip-hop's raising stars. The night kicked off with R&B bad boy Ray J and chi-town rapper Yung Berg. The two young guns warmed up the Giant's stadium crowd, (in East Rutherford, NJ) with their smash hit "Sexy Can I." The duo was followed by Def Jam crooner, The-Dream, performing all his hits including "Shorty Is a 10," "Falsetto," and "I Love Your Girl."Alicia Keys took the stage as the night's first big act. Wearing a white wife beater and tight fitting jeans, the piano woman performed her hits "Ghetto Stories" and "Teenage Love Affair," before she sang a rendition of Mary J. Blige's "Be Happy," which was a crowd favorite.Unexpectedly, the siren brought out Brooklyn rapper Maino as he made his Summer Jam debut with his street anthem "Hi Haters." After the rookie exited, A. Keys pulled out another surprise. To the packed crowd's amazement, she called out Wu-Tang's Raekwon to the stage. Theey began performing Rae's classic hit "Incarcerated Scarfaces."Method Man and Ghostface followed, joining Alicia and Rae for "C.R.E.A.M." Meth did what he does best as he amp'd the crowd with his classic cut "M.E.T.H.O.D. Man." After the Staten Island crew left the stage, Alicia finished with her smash hit "No One."The New York party continued, when The Lox - Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P - entered the stage to perform their hits "The Benjamin's" and "Wild Out." Fat Joe, Fabolous and N.O.R.E. joined the crew, but it was LL Cool J who stole the show when he hit the stage rapping his infectious hit "Head Sprung."The 305 followed New York with myriad of present day hits. Rick Ross, DJ Khaled and T-Pain got the crowd going with "I'm So Hood." A shirtless Mr. Mi-Ya-Yo, Rick Ross, showed the crowd why he's the "Boss" as he performed his hit single. Akon, Khaled and Joey Crack then joined him for "We Taking Over." T-Pain ended Miami's stage reign with his club banger "In Love With A Stripper."Hot 97's Angie Martinez introduced the self-proclaimed best rapper alive, Lil'Wayne, to a standing ovation. Weezy entered with his smash hit "A Milli," before going into a string of his hits. He got the ladies going with his sexual set, performing his freestyle "p*ssy Monster," "So Soft" - which he accompanied with guitar, and the sensual "Lollipop." The crowd went into a roar when Wayne brought out the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West, for the remix.Wayne then ended his set with Whitney Houston's classic track "I Will Always Love You." Weezy was not backed by the Gym Class Heroes band as scheduled, but did have his latest signee, Tyga, onstage with him.Kanye then returned to the stage for the main event of the evening. With "Diamonds From Sierra Leone," playing in the background, Ye greeted the crowd with a string of fireworks. The audience reciprocated by lighting up the stadium with their cell phones.West, adorned in a black patent leather bubble vest, black hoody and shades, then went into "Jesus Walks," "Champion" and "Homecoming." Ye brought out Consequence for "Good Morning America" and Young Jeezy for "Put On."Despite his smash hits, the summer jam crowd didn't seem to moved by Mr. West's performance. But when Ye brought out the seductive Rita G for "Flashing Lights" the Giant stadium crowd stood on their feet as the video vixen trucked across stage in her laced thong ensemble.Kanye ended his set with "Good Life" with T-Pain. Thanking the crowd, Kanye humbly stated "I'm bombing at summer jam but I took it on the chin," before he went into a freestyle that caused the audience to light up with applause.Old School NY rap legends, Public Enemy hit the stage for a message of hope and consciousness. Performing "Fight the Power" and other classic hits, Chuck D and Flavor Flav kept the crowd moving and paid respects to the slain husband and father Sean Bell. For the finale, Harlem representative and Dipset Capo Jim Jones closed the show, performing his smash hit "We Fly High (Ballin')" and "Byrd Gang Money." The local favorite also paid homage to Byrd Gang's fallen soldier, Stack Bundles, on "Emotionless" as Giant Stadium was lit up with cell phones.

Gas Container Found At 50 Cent's burned Mansion

Police found a five-gallon gas container on the grounds of a mansion at the center of a dispute between 50 Cent and his ex-girlfriend.

On early Friday morning, a fire ripped through the $2.4 million dollar Dix Hills, Long Island mansion, sending 6 people, including Tompkins and the superstar rapper’s 10-year-old son, to the hospital.

While arson investigators have yet-to-determine the cause of the inferno that completely destroyed the mansion, officials had already labeled the fire suspicious, due to the intensity of the blaze, which lasted about 45 minutes.

Tompkins, who accused 50 Cent of having a role in the incident, also accused the rapper of not checking on his son Marquise in the incident’s aftermath. "Tell him to call his son!" Tompkins shouted at reporters yesterday when she returned to grounds of the property, where she had been living with their son, her new boyfriend and other individuals.

50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson and the boyfriend were involved in a physical confrontation in the office of Tompkins’ lawyer during a deposition hearing, just days before the house was destroyed.

The rapper, 32, denied any involvement in the fire and expressed gratitude that no one was serious injured in the fire.

50 Cent and Tompkins will be in Manhattan Supreme Court over ownership of the mansion on June 10.
